Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina's campaign delivered a blow to Hillary Clinton Tuesday, saying it will hold a press conference Wednesday in Columbia, S.C. — where both candidates will be present simultaneously.
Clinton has been criticized for not taking questions from the media during most of her campaign, which began last month. Fiorina and other Republican candidates have tried to stress their willingness to meet with the media for questions and sit-down interviews.
"Carly Fiorina is speaking in downtown Columbia, S.C. on Wednesday. And guess what? So is Hillary Clinton," Fiorina spokeswoman Sarah I. Flores told
The Washington Post.
"We know it must be hard covering the Hillary for America But Against Transparency campaign. Leading by example, Carly will host a media availability outside the Columbia Marriott at 12:00 pm on Wednesday.
"Our events tomorrow are all open to the press. And by open press, we mean we'll actually take questions," Flores said in an email to the Post.
Clinton, according to
a WLTX report, is slated to host a roundtable discussion inside the Columbia Marriott a short time later.
Earlier this month,
Fiorina blasted Clinton for not taking questions from the media.
"She is going to have to answer some questions," Fiorina said.
Fiorina, a former business executive, is one of six Republicans who have declared their in the race for president. Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are the declared Democrats in the race up to this point.
Last Friday,
House Republicans said the media need to ask tougher questions of Clinton — especially as she is surrounded by scandals pertaining to her use of a private email address and server during her time as President Obama's secretary of state, and about her family's foundation.
