Former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who unsuccessfully sought for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, is considering a run for U.S. Senate in Virginia next year.

"I'm certainly looking at that opportunity," Fiorina told John Fredericks, a Virginia radio host whose morning news and talk show airs on three stations. "It's a little early to be making that decision, we're two weeks into a new administration."

If she throws her hat in the ring, Fiorina would challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine, who was Hillary Clinton's 2016 vice-presidential running mate.

"Who knows what the future will bring," she told Fredericks in an interview first posted by CNN.

"But I look forward to continuing to talk to the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia about things that we agree on, things that we may not yet know we agree on — most people are pragmatic, most people have a lot of common sense."

Fiorina's Virginia run would be her third try at public office.

In 2010, she won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in California, but lost the general election to incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer.
