George P. Bush on His Way to Washington

George P. Bush on His Way to Washington

By    |   Monday, 06 May 2013 04:01 PM EDT

George P. Bush, the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, is going to Washington, but so far only to raise money for a friend.

The ambitious scion of the family that has produced two presidents is headed for the capital to host one fundraiser for himself and one for freshman Rep. Roger Williams of Texas.

Bush is running for Texas land commissioner next year. And there is talk that it could lead to a run for governor, congressman or senator, perhaps ultimately leading to the presidency.

Bush's own fundraiser will be Wednesday night. Attendees will pay $500 each and $2,500 to host, according to an invitation obtained by Politico.

Bush will be a "special guest" at a breakfast for Williams on Thursday, according to an invitation obtained by The Washington Examiner. That event costs $100 to attend and $1,000 to host.

The 37-year-old Bush is seen as an attractive candidate given his naval service in Afghanistan and his fluent Spanish, which he has used to work on bringing Hispanics to the GOP.

Williams says Bush could be president one day. "You never know. We've had a few Bushes that have been president, so there's no reason to think any different, I guess," he told The Examiner.

"George P. has got a great future, even if his name wasn't Bush. He's the kind of guy we need."
