Former aides and supporters to George H.W. Bush are being vocal about their hope that his son, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, will make a bid for the presidency in 2016, and they are convinced he's the best person suited to tackling the country's problems and getting a Republican back in the White House.
Enthusiasm for the younger Bush was evident throughout an event last weekend in Texas to mark the legacy of his father and the 25th anniversary of his inauguration,
Buzzfeed reported.
"We have a responsibility to make sure Jeb runs," longtime Bush adviser Andy Card said, according to Buzzfeed.
"If Jeb does not run, shame on us," he added. "I would work in a Jeb administration in a heartbeat."
"Look at all of us," Jill Collins, a former campaign aide said about the 600-strong gathering of supporters and dignitaries. "We are all ready to fundraise and start planting yard signs. We have all done it before and we will do it again."
Jeb Bush gave a
widely-covered speech at the event honoring his father which further stirred speculation and hope about his intentions for 2016.
Others lamented what they see as the failures of President Barack Obama's administration, saying Bush would restore the leadership that America needs, Buzzfeed reported.
Jim McGrath, George H.W. Bush's official spokesperson, said the "Bush brand of leadership" would solve many of the country's problems.
"What's happening right now in Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, the overspending… we would hit that head on because it cries out for presidential leadership," McGrath said. "The Bush style of leadership needs to return to Washington."
