Buck Joins Growing GOP Field to Challenge Colorado Sen. Udall

By    |   Thursday, 08 August 2013 03:34 PM EDT

Colorado Republican Ken Buck has thrown his hat into the ring in a bid to unseat Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Udall in the 2014 U.S. Senate race.

According to The Denver Post, the Weld County district attorney filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday and plans to officially launch his campaign with a state tour in early September.

The tea party Republican joins state GOP Sens. Randy Baumgardner and Owen Hill in the race. Both have already announced their candidacies. Other candidates are also expected to join the fray in a race Republican strategists believe is winnable.

In 2010, Buck unsuccessfully attempted to unseat Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, losing by just 2 points.

"Ken's going to finish the job in 2014," Walt Klein, a consultant to Buck, told The Denver Post.
