Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is a "fantastic, fantastic man," but "almost no Democrat" will vote for his confirmation, President Donald Trump said during a radio interview airing Monday morning.

"We'll get almost no Democrat" to vote for him, Trump told Geraldo Rivera on the premiere of his radio show, "Geraldo in Cleveland," on WTAM, reports The New York Times. "We may get a couple in states where I won by many, many points — you understand that — but we'll essentially get no Democrat."

Despite that, he also said he believes Kavanaugh will soon join Justice Neil Gorsuch, his first appointee, on the Supreme Court:

"Hopefully, we'll have a second judge very shortly who is a fantastic, fantastic man, a fantastic talent and intellect."

Kavanaugh's confirmation proceedings have been thrown into turmoil by the accusation of California professor Christine Blasey Ford, who says he sexually assaulted her while they were both teenagers. Over the weekend, a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, claimed Kavanaugh sexually taunted her when they were both students at Yale University. The interview was taped before The New Yorker printed its story about Ramirez on Sunday.

Trump repeated his doubts about Ford's claims, telling Rivera "this went 36 years without a complaint," but he thinks it is important for both Ford and Kavanaugh to testify to the Senate about the allegations.

The president declined to say if he might fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein after The New York Times reported he had suggested recording Trump and talked of invoking the 25th Amendment to move him from office.
