J.D. Winteregg, who is making a GOP primary run against House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, doesn't likely stand a chance of winning, but he's getting attention with a new ad in which he says Boehner suffers "electile dysfunction."
The 60-second ad starts off looking like an ad for erectile dysfunction drugs such as Cialis or Viagra.
"Your electile dysfunction? It could be a question of blood flow. Sometimes, when a politician has been in D.C. too long, it goes to his head, and he just can't seem to get the job done," the video says as it intersperses images of playful couples with video of Boehner appearing cozy with President Barack Obama.
"Used on a daily basis, Winteregg in Congress will help you every time the moment is right, to have your voice heard at the federal level," the ad continues.
The ad even plays off a common mispronunciation of Boehner's name, which is properly said BAY-ner.
"If you have a Boehner lasting longer than 23 years, seek immediate medical attention," the announcer says.
The Washington Post reported that Winteregg did not respond to requests asking how much the ad cost or whether it was airing on television or was only online.
The Post noted, however, that Winteregg's campaign chest had only about $1,600 at the end of 2013 and his
website's biography says he "teaches at a local high school, and he also does adjunct work at a nearby university."
Boehner is among several Republicans seen as members of the party establishment who are facing more conservative opposition in their primaries this year.
