Bill Wants 'Woman President' But Doesn't Know if Hillary Will Run

Bill Clinton says he would like to see a woman become president in his lifetime, but the former president insists he has "no idea" whether his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, will run in 2016, Politico reported Monday.

Hillary Clinton has not announced whether she plans another presidential bid. She lost to Barack Obama in 2008.

"I hope we have a woman president in my lifetime, and I think it would be a good thing for the world as well as for America," Bill Clinton said at a news conference in Beijing where he was holding meetings with China's President Xi Jinping.

"But I do not know if she's going to run, and there is no such thing as a sure thing in politics," he said.

When asked whether he could see himself as the "first husband," he replied, "You know, if I knew the answer to that, I couldn't say. But I can give you an honest answer: I have no idea."

He called the former first lady "the ablest public servant I have ever worked with."

If she does decide to run, "if that's what she wants to do, I will support her," Bill Clinton said. "But if she decides for whatever reason she doesn't, I will support that."

"It's very interesting for us," he said. "We still feel young and we still feel healthy." He said his wife now is "less motivated . . . by a fear of failure."
