Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden told a woman in New Hampshire that she is a "lying dog-faced pony soldier," which his campaign says is a joke he has used before, The Hill reported on Sunday.
The remark was made in response to a question the woman asked at a campaign event regarding the former vice president’s disappointing fourth-place finish in Iowa. When Biden asked the woman if she had ever been to a caucus and the woman said, yes, he said, "No you haven't, you're a lying, dog-faced pony soldier. You gotta be honest."
In a clip from Biden's campaign event, the candidate follows up the joke by saying that even if everything had gone exactly right for him in the state, “the idea you come with about half the delegate leaders have in Iowa does not necessarily say how you're going to win Pennsylvania, how you're going to win Michigan."
In response to a tweet by Donald Trump Jr. of the video of Biden’s comments, Biden spokesman Andrew Bates wrote on Twitter that, “It's a joke he's made before with a line from a John Wayne movie."
