The Biden campaign is condemning a recent staff hire in its Arizona office for years-old social media posts that indicated hostility to police and feminists, among other things, TheHill.com reported Thursday.

The campaign issued a statement saying former staffer from Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign Michael Ramirez, 32, hired on Aug. 11 as digital organizing director, had apologized for Twitter posts dating at least to 2012 that expressed the desire to “punch a cop,” Mexicans fixing things “right and cheap,”  and wanting to see a “disgusted feminist face,” the Arizona Daily Independent reported.

"The views expressed in these years-old tweets don't reflect the views of the Biden Campaign or the Arizona Democratic Party. Michael has apologized to the campaign staff for this and is regretful of his actions," the statement said according to TheHill.com.

Ramirez previously worked for Sanders’ campaign as a field director, as deputy field director for the Nevada caucuses, and as campaign manager for Colorado state Sen. Julie Gonzales in the 2018. In 2016, he was the Sanders campaign’s national Latino outreach strategist.

The Biden campaign’s statement came two weeks after local media highlighted the posts, which were contrasted with Democrats’ attempt to portray vice presidential nominee, Sen. Kamala Harris – identified by govtrack.us as the fourth-most liberal member of the U.S. Senate – as a “pragmatic moderate.”
