Political allies for both Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., are questioning whether there is room in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries for both potential candidates, The Hill is reporting.

The website pointed out potential problems with the two senators, who are so ideologically similar, running against each other.

“They could cancel each other out,” said one person who advised Sanders during the 2016 campaign. “Both of them clearly want to run, but both of them together in a primary? It is kind of redundant.

“It’s tricky. They’re both very similar. She has everything Bernie has and he’s very well aware of that.”

The two are expected to meet and discuss the 2020 race sometime after the midterm, according to The Hill.

“Warren and Sanders watch each other as much as the Yankees and Red Sox check up on each other in the American League East,” Brad Bannon, a Democratic strategist, told The Hill.

“It will be the biggest rivalry because only one of them will survive long enough to challenge Joe Biden for the nomination.”

Sanders finished second, behind Vice President Joe Biden, in a Zogby Poll of Democratic primary voters in July. Warren finished in fourth place.
