A Republican senator blasted the deal President Donald Trump brokered with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., regarding the debt ceiling.
"Do your constituents know that Chuck Schumer, whose title is minority leader not majority leader, just made himself the most powerful man in America for the month of December?" Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., said during a Senate floor speech Thursday, The Hill reported.
Trump met with lawmakers in the Oval Office on Wednesday night and came to an agreement with Schumer and the Democrats to increase the debt ceiling until Dec. 8, which staves off a government shutdown. The deal, which passed in the Senate on Thursday, also provides relief to people affected by Hurricane Harvey.
The Hill noted Sasse called Schumer the "key man" in debt ceiling negotiations that will take place later this year because of the deal that was struck.
