A majority of Americans in key battleground districts are angry and blaming President Joe Biden for the current migrant crisis on the U.S. border, according to the latest poll for Heritage Action for America conducted by On Message Inc. of Virginia.
Even more damning for Democrats is the fact that a majority pins the growing crisis on Biden's dismantling of former President Donald Trump's border policies and intend to make Biden pay at the polls during the 2022 midterms, the Washington Examiner reported.
"These polls prove that Americans of both parties are rejecting Biden's open-borders agenda by wide margins," Heritage Action Executive Director Jessica Anderson told the Examiner.
"Voters rightly blame Biden's failed immigration policies for the border crisis by wide margins and are very concerned with the effects of illegal immigration on America's social services, taxpayer burden, and public safety. Americans know what the administration refuses to admit: the border is in crisis, and Biden's weak policies are to blame."
On Message polled 15 battleground congressional districts in 15 states, finding 56% blame Biden's crisis on the unwinding of Trump's policies, including 48% who strong agree.
"Americans support the common-sense immigration policies of the Trump administration, including the remain-in-Mexico policy, border wall, and deportations of fraudulent asylum-seekers," Anderson wrote in a statement.
Most pressing for Democrats is 50% in those battleground districts are "less likely to support Democrat candidates in the 2022 election for Congress" amid the recent border surge, according to the poll.
The results from 19 suburban swing counties in 10 battleground states gave similar results in the poll, with 2 differences:
- By 4 points, 76%-72%, more believe "Americans should come first" with regard to government benefits.
- By 5 points, 78%-73%, more believe illegal immigrants should be deported for fraudulent asylum claims.
In other findings in the poll:
- Half noted just 250,000 or fewer immigrants should be permitted per year.
- Only 6% said over 1 million.
Sources told the Examiner an estimated 1 million illegal immigrants will enter the U.S. this year at the current rate.
The polls were conducted by OnMessage, Inc. March 22-25 among 1,200 likely voters in 15 key congressional districts and March 22-25 among 1,200 likely voters in 19 swing suburban counties. No margin of error estimation was given.
