Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., on Sunday hailed the progress toward an economic recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and accused Democrats of blocking it out of political spite.

In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Barrasso railed at likely Democratic opposition to GOP legislation on further economic relief.

“The experts were all wrong. They said we would be at 16% unemployment,” he said, referring to the latest jobs report that showed a 8.4% rate.

“I think this is a function of the leadership of President Trump and what the Republicans have been focused on doing. But also, the integrity and hard work of the American people who want to get back to work.”

He said a GOP “targeted” recovery package is aimed “to help people get back to work.”

“I expect [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer [D-N.Y.] and [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [D-Calif.] to block that,” he said. “It's almost as if the Democrats think they'll do better in the election if more people are suffering.”

Barrasso mocked Pelosi’s controversial visit to a California hair salon, alleging it proved she has a “Cruella de Vil” contempt for working Americans.

“I'm not surprised that she has attacked the single mother of two who owned the salon, who is likely to go bankrupt as a result of the fact that we don't have additional paycheck protection money,” Barrasso said of the salon owner who videotaped the visit.

“So to me, this is Nancy Pelosi Cruella de Vil, saying no to paycheck protection for businesses all around the country, at the same time telling one small business they should open but only open for her. This is a sign of contempt for American workers.”
