White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon is now taking an active role in trying to revive Republicans' healthcare legislation that was pulled off the table last Friday, Politico reported.

Though nothing has changed since then — House Republicans remain divided over it — Speaker Paul Ryan on Tuesday made a pledge to keep at it.

"We're going to keep talking to each other until we get it right," Ryan said at a news conference.

And now he's got President Donald Trump's right-hand man talking with House moderates and conservatives to try and seek some common ground, Politico reported.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Tuesday told Newsmax that Ryan and the president spoke two, three times over the weekend about "different strategies, different ideas" regarding the American Health Care Act legislation.

Namely, how to get the votes needed to pass it.

"The question is, could we add the additional votes in ways that enhance the bill or bring people over who were previous skeptics?" Spicer said at the daily press briefing. "I think that's the balancing act that has to occur. I think it has to add additional folks on without pushing additional folks off."

Bannon's role in trying to resuscitate the legislation is an about-face for Trump's top aide.

Though Bannon reportedly issued an ultimatum to House conservatives to pass the bill, privately he talked down the bill and hoped it would fail, New York Magazine reported.

The magazine reported that Bannon panned the AHCA legislation because it didn't drive down costs and was written by the insurance industry.
