The Republican Party has found an unexpected ally in its battle to delay parts of Obamacare, Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., admits.
Teamsters President James P. Hoffa
sent a letter last week to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., requesting they fix the law.
"It is strange bedfellows here in Washington, D.C.," Bachmann said Wednesday on Fox News Channel. "What's ironic in that letter is he said, 'The president said that if we like our healthcare we can keep it.' So James Hoffa of the Teamsters is quoting back to the president his infamous remark."
Hoffa notes in the letter that the Teamsters helped get the Affordable Care Act passed, but has been met with a stone wall by the White House when voicing concerns.
"James Hoffa is threatening the political option that they may not be there in 2014 for President Obama," Bachmann said. "So it's very clear no one likes Obamacare."
The House is set to
vote Wednesday night on officially delaying the employer and individual mandate. The White House has said it will delay the employer mandate to provide insurance for all employees for those who have more than 50 full-time workers. It has not delayed the individual mandate.
"The president is standing up for big business now, and the worries that big busisness has, he's not standing up for small business, and he's not standing up for the individual mandate," Bachmann said.
Republicans control the House and have voted 38 times in that chamber to repeal the law entirely. None of the bills passed the Senate.
"Small businesses, real Americans, big businesses, even the Teamsters Union, would love it if my bill could get on the president's desk," Bachmann said. "Everyone wants it gone. Why? Because it will cost the American people trillions of dollars to comply with it."
