Rep. Bachmann Says She'll Seek Old Minn. Seat

Tuesday, 21 February 2012 06:08 PM EST

Former Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says she'll run for re-election in her old Minnesota congressional district, even though a state judicial panel redrew the map to put her home in a Democratic incumbent's district.

Bachmann would have faced an eventual battle against six-term U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum if she decided to run in the new 4th District, where her home is located.

Instead, Bachmann told The Associated Press she plans to run again in the 6th District, which she currently represents. Members of Congress don't have to live in the district they represent. She says she doesn't know if she'll establish a residence in the new 6th District.

She quit the presidential race last month after finishing last place in Iowa's kickoff caucuses.
