Telecommunications giant AT&T joined a growing list of companies that plan to suspend financial donations to lawmakers who opposed the Electoral College voting certification.

In a statement to Reuters on Monday, AT&T said its political action committee would "suspend contributions to members of Congress who voted to object to the certification of Electoral College votes last week."

AT&T ranks among the nation's largest political contributors. The decision was made by employees on its PAC board, which convened a call Monday.

American Express, BlueCross BlueShield, Commerce Bank, Dow, and Marriott were among other corporations to announce the suspension of donations to Republican Congressional members who objected to the electoral votes certification, per CNN.

A group of Republican representatives and senators opposed the electoral vote totals in several states on Wednesday, when a joint session of Congress met to certify Joe Biden's victory. Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., both considered contenders for the party’s presidential nomination in 2024, were among the people who opposed the votes.

President Donald Trump and allies have alleged that voter fraud in several key battleground states led to Biden's triumph.

Shortly after the House and Senate retired to their respective chamber to discuss the Arizona electoral tally, demonstrators protesting the election results stormed the Capitol building. Five people died as a result.

In recent days, social media companies Twitter and Facebook have banned Trump from their platforms.
