A federal court has temporarily rolled back a lower court's ruling that blocked the Trump administration's new rules on migrants seeking asylum.
As Politico reported, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued an administrative stay on Tuesday, one day after a U.S. District Court judge in Oakland halted the rules nationwide.
At issue is whether migrants who pass through another country en route to the United States should be allowed to seek asylum in the U.S. The Trump administration sought to prevent asylum claims in cases such as that, but Monday's ruling stopped that practice.
Tuesday night's stay reinstated the practice in every state except California and Arizona, meaning authorities are clear to enforce the practice in the border states of New Mexico and Texas.
The policy targets tens of thousands of Central Americans who cross Mexico every month to try to enter the U.S. and also would affect asylum-seekers from Africa, Asia, and South America who arrive regularly at the southern border.
