Florida AG Moody to Newsmax: Border Terrorist Warning 'Astounding'

By    |   Tuesday, 24 October 2023 10:56 AM EDT

It's "astounding" that the federal government has had to issue a warning that terrorists could be crossing the southern border after President Joe Biden's "dereliction" there has allowed record numbers of people to enter the country illegally, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody told Newsmax on Tuesday.

"Because of his purposeful actions, [Customs and Border Protection] is having to warn that terrorists may be coming across," the Florida Republican said on "Wake Up America." "What's shocking is nobody is really paying much attention to this."

This past Friday, The Daily Caller reported that the San Diego Field Office Intelligence Division of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sent out a memo warning that members of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and Hezbollah could be entering the country across the southern border.

The report was based on an internal memo dated Oct. 20, which said that because of the war between Israel and Hamas, there could be increased encounters with terrorists hoping to travel to or from the Middle East.

"Biden, since he's been in office, has broken the record every single year for the most migrant encounters at the border," said Moody. "As soon as he got in office, he started decimating our security structures at the border. He started building new programs to fly people directly here, hundreds of thousands of people, and he has systematically started pushing more and more people into the country, causing surges, and demanding that there are mass release quotas met by agents. And so you know, all of this has led to record-breaking numbers at our border every year."

And this includes people who are on the terrorism watch list, including one person found in Florida, said Moody.

"As soon as we saw this break out, I immediately started cautioning," she said. "We've been fighting them in court. We've been winning."

However, the Biden administration has "been like shape-shifters" with its regulations, and "every time we win, they change their policy," said Moody.

She added that she thinks the CBP warning came because "Biden has to own this."

"He's the one that destroyed the border," Moody said.

Meanwhile, the increase in immigration also means an increase in fentanyl coming into the country, she said.

"The fastest-growing age group that's dying from fentanyl overdoses is children under 14," Moody said. "It's killing children under 14. It's overwhelming police officers. They're being called in to respond to overdose situations daily.

The drug crisis also goes back to the "dereliction" of Biden and his administration, said Moody.

"There is enough fentanyl to kill the entire U.S. population 35 times over," she added. "Because of them, they are making it harder on our law enforcement officers across this nation just to keep up and save lives. It's a tragedy, and it could have all been prevented, but for the insane, unresponsive, irresponsible, callous policy decisions of this administration."
