Outspoken Holocaust denier Arthur Jones is set to become the Republican nominee for an Illinois congressional seat representing parts of Chicago and nearby suburbs, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on Sunday.

Jones, whose website for his latest congressional run includes a section titled "The 'Holocaust Racket,'" where he calls the Holocaust "the biggest blackest lie in history," has unsuccessfully run for public office since the 1970s.

The now 70-year-old Jones has for the past few decades run in the GOP primary seven times in this district but had never even come close to becoming a viable contender.

The Anti-Defamation League has condemned him as "an anti-Semite and unrepentant bigot," The Times of Israel reported.

But this year Jones is the only Republican on the ballot for the party primary in the district on March 20 and will thus apparently face in the November elections either Rep. Dan Lipinski or his Democratic primary challenger, Marie Newman, the Sun-Times reported.

Jones will almost certainly be heavily defeated in November, because the district is one of the most heavily Democratic ones in the state.

The Chicago Sun-Times noted that the Republican Party decided this year not to make an effort to recruit a credible candidate in districts such as this one, which are so overwhelmingly Democratic.

The GOP also two years ago had successfully disqualified Jones from running, but this time around did not manage to do so.

Illinois Republican Party chairman Tim Schneider said "The Illinois Republican Party and our country have no place for Nazis like Arthur Jones. We strongly oppose his racist views and his candidacy for any public office, including the 3rd Congressional District."
