Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer surmised that Sean Spicer, who announced his resignation from the White House communications team Friday, "has had enough."
Fleischer spoke with Fox News about Spicer's decision to resign as President Donald Trump's press secretary. Reports say Spicer disagreed with Trump's decision to hire New York financier Anthony Scaramucci as White House director of communications.
"The pot boiled over. Sean has had enough," said Fleischer, who worked in the White House under former President George W. Bush from 2001-2003.
"He's quoted as saying Scaramucci would be a terrible choice. Sean had no choice but to leave. They have to get along hand-in-glove, they have to see things eye-to-eye, otherwise there are cross-purposes."
Fleischer, who now runs Ari Fleischer Sports Communications, added that it seems like Trump was not comfortable with how the communications team was operating. Spicer had taken on more work after the departure of former White House communications director Mike Dubke in early June.
"There's something else going on here, and that's the president's comfort zone," Fleischer said. "He's brought on Anthony Scaramucci because he wants comfort. He is a finance guy, he does not have a background in communications strategies.
"I have questions still about the White House's ability to manage communications issues."
