Apple CEO Tim Cook is reportedly hosting a fundraiser for House Speaker Paul Ryan – aiming to strengthen corporate ties with GOP leaders even as the iPhone maker distances itself from the party over soon-to-be-nominated Donald Trump.

The June 28 Menlo Park, Calif., event will help generate cash for Ryan – and a joint fundraising committee that's helping to elected other House Republicans – at a private breakfast headed by Cook and Apple treasurer Gary Wipfler, Politico reports.

Under Cook's leadership, Apple has become more outspoken on controversial topics ranging from gay marriage to environmental conservation, The Verge reports, and Cook has embraced a more active political role.

Apple's late co-founder Steve Jobs disdained Washington, Politico notes.

Apple has already told Republican Party officials it won't contribute financially or in any other way to the next month's convention in Cleveland because of Trump's incendiary remarks about Hispanics, women and other groups.

The decision was the latest conflict between Apple and Trump's campaign. Amid the legal battle with the FBI over unlocking the iPhone of San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook, Trump called for a boycott on Apple's products.
