Rep. Andy Biggs to Newsmax TV: Defense Bill Undermines Trump's Foreign Policy

By    |   Wednesday, 09 December 2020 05:51 PM EST

The House of Representatives passed a defense bill that undermines President Donald Trump's foreign policy, according to Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., on Newsmax TV.

Biggs told co-host Bob Sellers on Wednesday's "American Agenda" that Democrats turned a bill that should be about 200-300 pages in length into a "4,500 page monstrosity" with limitations on how Trump can deploy and use the military.

"A lot of what this is is basically to undermine the Trump foreign policy, the Trump doctrine which has been so successful," Biggs said. "The first president in four decades not to put us into a new war. That has been a remarkable record and this bill undermines that."

The House passed a $741 billion defense authorization bill Tuesday by a veto-proof majority.

Biggs, chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said the bill takes aim at one of the president's priorities when he ran for office.

"They've taken away the right of the president to continue building the border security wall along the southern border," Biggs said. "That's in this bill."

Biggs criticized Democrats for padding the bill with non-defense items, such as $3 million dollars for Department of Agriculture public-service announcements.

"They will literally hold our military hostage by sticking in all this other stuff," Biggs said.

"How in the world do you put in a provision where businesses, all small businesses around the country, are going to have to register with the federal government. How do you put that into a national defense bill?"

Other items also bothered Biggs.

"How about doing social engineering with the Afghan security forces?" he said. "We're going to give the Afghan security forces money instead of defending themselves with that money and defending our troops with that money; we're engaging in social engineering."

Biggs said the defense bill falls short of performing the government's No. 1 job.

"The most basic and fundamental function of the federal government in the United States is to defend this nation," Biggs said. "And so, we want to make sure that they're fully funded, making sure they have every piece of material they need, make sure they get trained appropriately and are safe as possible on these missions."
