Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, is calling for President Donald Trump to be impeached, The Hill is reporting.
Green, pointing to Trump's dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, said the president is not "above the law."
"He has committed an impeachable act and must be charged," he said. "To do otherwise would cause some Americans to lose respect for, and obedience to, our societal norms."
Many Democrats, including Green, have questioned whether Trump's ouster of Comey was connected to the FBI investigation possible ties between Trump's campaign and Russian government officials.
"President Trump has committed an act for which he should be charged by the U.S. House of Representatives," Green said. "The act is obstruction of a lawful investigation of the President's campaign ties to Russian influence in his 2016 Presidential Election.
"I have said on previous occasions, and do now say again, the president should be impeached.
The Hill reported that Green also pointed to the president's recent tweet in which he said Comey should hope there are no "tapes" of their conversations about the investigation "before he starts leaking to the press."
"These acts, when combined, amount to intimidation and obstruction," Green said.
The Washington Examiner said Green is the second House Democrat to call for Trump's impeachment.
It noted Rep. Maxine Waters of California had tweeted that she would "fight every day until he's impeached." However, she later denied calling for his impeachment.
