Freshman Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul has recorded a robocall for Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin that will go to homes Monday night.
“I know Todd Akin will stand up and support the constitution. Todd Akin has stood up to the Washington establishment. I know that when he gets to Washington, he will stand with me and vote to repeal Obamacare,” the tea party star says in the recording, obtained by Politico
“Todd is a man of principle who believes if government stays small, our economy will grow, and we’ll once again be the strongest nation in the world.”
A PAC affiliated with Paul launched an ad campaign supporting Akin last week, as non-establishment Republicans ratchet up their efforts on behalf of the Missouri congressman. His campaign has suffered from controversial comments he made about rape and abortion.
Real Clear Politics rates the race between Akin and incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill as leaning Democratic. The last four major polls compiled by Real Clear, taken between Oct. 3 and Nov. 3, show McCaskill with an average lead of 6.3 percentage points.
To be sure, a $2 million barrage of ads is hitting the airwaves for Akin in the campaign’s final days, The New York Times reports. McCaskill has far outspent him throughout the race.
