Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, already in trouble with female voters for his comments about "legitimate rape," appears to have stepped in it again, likening his opponent Sen. Claire McCaskill to a dog.
Akin made the comments about the Democratic incumbent in a fundraiser.
“She goes to Washington, D.C., it’s a little bit like one of those dogs, ‘fetch,’” he said according to the website
PoliticMo.
“She goes to Washington, D.C., and gets all of these taxes and red tape and bureaucracy and executive orders and agencies and brings all of this stuff and dumps it on us in Missouri.”
In August, Akin said in an interview that women's bodies can prevent pregnancies in a "legitimate rape," adding that pregnancies in such cases are rare. Until the comments, he was expected to defeat McCaskill and had led in the polls.
However, he has been behind since and the Real Clear Politics polling average has Akin, a six-term member of the House of Representatives, lagging by 5 percent.
