Americans for Prosperity, the group backed by conservative billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, is launching a digital ad campaign, thanking Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., for supporting a key piece of legislation, CNBC is reporting.
Heitkamp was the co-sponsor of a bill that rolls back Dodd-frank regulations mainly on community banks. It passed Congress with bipartisan support, according to CNBC.
"Congress achieved a significant milestone in lifting some of the toughest restrictions Dodd-Frank placed on small banks and their consumers," said Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity.
"This was a bipartisan effort made possible by lawmakers like Heidi Heitkamp who put politics aside to work together."
"While we don't agree with Sen. Heitkamp on everything, particularly her vote against tax relief, we commend her for taking a stand against the leaders of her party to do the right thing. We hope to find common ground and work with Sen. Heitkamp on other issues moving forward including making tax relief permanent."
Only two months ago, the Koch network had launched a six-figure ad buy slamming her for opposing the GOP tax reform bill, CNBC noted.
Heitkamp is up for re-election this year in a state President Donald Trump won in the 2016 presidential election.
Vice President Mike Pence had slammed Heitkamp while in North Dakota in March.
"North Dakota could do a whole lot better than Sen. Heidi Heitkamp," Pence said.
