President Donald Trump needs to do more White House cleaning — and fire policy adviser Stephen Miller and national security aide Sebastian Gorka, Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff said Sunday.
In an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," the California lawmaker lauded the exit of former chief strategist Stephen Bannon — but insisted more must be done.
"There certainly are a lot of people on the White House staff and [National Security Council] staff, people like Miller and Gorka, who represent what Steve Bannon did but also aren't capable of doing the job well," he charged.
"There's more cleaning house that ought to take place."
Schiff also blasted Trump's comments following the violence in Charlottesville, Va., that were criticized for seemingly equating both sides in the clash.
"The fundamental problem here is that the president of the United States can't bring himself to repudiate a part of his support," Schiff charged. "And that is that small group of bigots that are supporters of his. He has taken a position, essentially, that 'if you're with me, you can do to no wrong. And I won't condemn practically anything that you do.'
"His difficulty during the campaign… to condemn [former KKK leader] David Duke is not at all unlike the difficulty he has had this week in a full-throated, unequivocal repudiation of sentiment and ideology that we not only find repugnant but fought a world war over. I think that's the root of the problem."
