Pro-Choice Group to Pols: Bare Your Sex Scandals

Pro-Choice Group to Pols: Bare Your Sex Scandals

By    |   Wednesday, 30 May 2018 12:13 PM EDT

A leading abortion-rights group is asking political candidates to disclose any sexual harassment allegations made against them – in a bid to help advance "women’s role in society and also in politics."

The group – the Massachusetts chapter of NARAL Pro-Choice America – appears to be the first women’s rights group to make the demand, according to The Boston Globe.

Rebecca Hart Holder, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, told the newspaper:

"I think our biggest hope is to help elevate the conversation about sexual harassment and make clear that one of the values of reproductive freedom is being free from harassment in the workplace.

"As uncomfortable as it can be to have these conversations, I think they’re really critical to advancing women’s role in society and also in politics."

NARAL says its goal is campaigning "on a wide variety of issues — all with the central goal of protecting and expanding reproductive freedom across the country."

Earlier this week, it condemned the decision by the Supreme Court not to consider a challenge to a restrictive Arkansas abortion law, saying it forced "women to travel over 760 miles" to access safe healthcare.
