Highlighting Abortion Not a Good Plan for Dems

Abortion is a serious issue dividing our country for decades.

As an avowed pro-lifer, I have no problem acknowledging that more than one friend of mine has had an abortion, confiding in me beforehand. It would be the height of arrogance for me to expect my position on abortion to predominate and shame anyone who disagrees with my point of view.

And this is exactly why the dangerous, unethical and opprobrious Dobbs Leak has backfired on the pro-abortion movement spectacularly, on a scope greater than even the late, amazing and inimitable pro-life movement pioneer Nellie Gray could have ever imagined!

The leak of a February draft opion of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case has been a public relations nightmare for the Democratic Party that few could have ever predicted or devised. The pro-life movement, pro-life politicians, and even some moderate Democrats will benefit enormously from one of the biggest political blunders in recent history.

Whoever leaked the draft Supreme Court opinion by Justice Samuel Alito overturning Roe v. Wade, did so with enormous delusions of grandeur and even bigger presumptions about the political dispositions of the American People.

Without missing a beat and immediately after Politico publicized the leak, the usual suspects in the Democratic party began a massive fundraising effort, hauling in millions. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appearing on cue to announce the probable end of the Republic should Roe be overturned. Protestors gathering outside of the Supreme Court minutes after the leak.

Country Club RINOS in full-blown panic running to press conferences and vowing to do whatever it takes to protect abortion.

Obviously, all of the above are familiar scenes from a “movie” we’ve seen a million times before.

The Democrats initially think this is the “rainmaker” that will help them hold onto to their House Majority. Who needs unlimited ballot drop boxes anymore, they probably wondered.

But then all of a sudden, the producers of this predictable “theater” are faced with something they can no longer keep behind the curtain; the unhinged wackos of the far-left wing of the Democratic Party, who feel they have been suppressed for far too long, decide to storm the set and take over the narrative! This is just the beginning of their Dobbs Leak ordeal.

A captive audience is unexpectedly treated to a visibly enraged Sen. Elzabeth Warren, D-Mass., violently shaking her fists as she directly questions the legitimacy of one of our three branches of government, and exalts a crowd to fight and never accept any Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

Anyone who had never questioned the validity of unrestricted abortion, surely did so after being treated to Sen. Warren’s best impression of Howard Dean’s concession speech in Iowa.

Alas, this was just the warm-up act to the Dobbs Leak implosion. Angry mobs decided to surround the homes of several Supreme Court justices in brazen intimidation attempts. Images of furious demonstrators screaming outside the justices' houses go viral.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki blatantly refuses to denounce or discourage protesters gathering outside the residences of Supreme Court justices and churches. Justice Alito and his family are forced to flee to a secure location.

On Saturday in New York — where a woman will continue to have the right to an abortion up until nine months regardless of what the Supreme Court decides in Dobbs — a bizarre pro-abortion protest unfolded outside of the Basilica of the old St. Patrick’s Cathedral. A woman (possibly suffering from mental health issues and dressed in a one-piece bikini) physically ripped apart baby dolls, was cheered on and encouraged by her fellow protesters as she ranted “I’m killing the babies!”

Unleashing mobs chanting in favor of abortion with menacing intensity does frighten people, but it also brings widespread attention to the abortion issue which is what the Democrats can’t possibly want.

Most Americans erroneously believed that overturning Roe would ban abortion in the entire country. What most Americans also don’t know is that the United States (joining China and North Korea) is among only seven countries allowing elective abortion after 20 weeks. According to a Gallup Poll, only 28 percent of Americans support abortion in the second trimester.

A staunchly pro-choice friend of mine in NYC called me with a question after taking part in a massive pro-abortion demonstration.

“Is it true in New York you can get an abortion up to nine months?” she asked.

“Yes, it’s true”, I replied.

“OK, that’s just disgusting!” was her response.

Republican campaigns are well advised to keep focusing on local issues affecting their voters, Republicans in moderate districts should be careful not to overcompensate if Roe is overturned.

While I don’t normally give advice to Democrats, if you are a Democrat from a swing district who thinks supporting Roe v. Wade is going to carry you across the finish line — think again!
