War veterans and military men and women now serving must push harder to be heard in Washington, says Benjamin Smith, a former U.S. Navy SEAL who spoke at a recent World War II Memorial protest in Washington.
"Military people have to start standing up more, being a louder voice and being leaders," Smith told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Republicans and Democrats are very much lost, and the veterans now aren't even going toward politics. It's like [only] 15 percent are in politics or running the country," Smith said Monday.
He said that during a crisis, the nation turns to its armed forces for answers.
"If things go sideways economically or in whatever way something happens, people come to the military guys first. What do we do now? I don't know where my next meal is? I don't know how to survive when Shop Rite [supermarket] goes down," he said.
