Bozell: MSNBC Interview Shows Obama's in 'Panic Mode'

The White House is clearly in "panic mode" after President Barack Obama sat for an interview Thursday with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, says Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center.

"He's looking for the most comfortable venue that will be most sympathetic to him," Bozell said Thursday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

Obama knew that Matthews, who has said, among other gushing comments, "I look at Obama as a perfect American," wouldn't ask tough questions, Bozell said.

The "Hardball" host interviewed Obama at American University in Washington, D.C., before an audience of 300 college students. A recent poll showed Obama's support slipping among adults in their early 20s.

Host Sean Hannity wondered why Matthews drew the plum assignment of interview the leader of the free world, when NBC has journalists such as Tom Brokaw, Matt Lauer, and  Brian Williams available.

"The fact that he didn't faint or wet his pants is a miracle," Hannity said.

Matthews has in recent months become a critic of the president.

Bozell responded that while every major figure at NBC is likely liberal and voted for Obama, "That does not make every major figure at NBC this kind of journalist.

"I suspect they must be so embarrassed there with this man as the face of that network," he said, "not the face of MSNBC, the face of NBC."
