The Left has been exploiting a loophole in a 1996 law that abolished sanctuary cities, states and more, and, as a result, has blood on its hands in the killing of 32-year-old Kate Steinle in San Francisco last week, Rep. Steve King tells
Newsmax TV.
Mexican national Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, 45, has been charged with Steinle's shooting death. He has seven felony convictions and was deported to Mexico five times. He said he chose San Francisco because of its status as a sanctuary city.
"Sanctuary cities exist because of the left, because of the open border policy," King told "Newsmax Prime" on Wednesday. "Yes, there is blood on their hands and San Francisco is at fault. All of California is a sanctuary state today, and many states have these jurisdictions like this."

King said that three weeks ago, he brought an amendment to the floor on the Commerce Justice Appropriations bill that prohibits any funds from going to any sanctuary cities or jurisdictions just has he has for years.
The amendment passed with strong support, but in previous years it has stalled in the Senate.
"We've got an opportunity to hold that language because of Donald Trump and because of this national crisis," King said.
Though GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has been under fire for his statement that many illegal immigrants are bringing drugs into the country and that some are killers and rapists, King said recent events have shown he was right.
"First I'd add that two-thirds of the illegal immigrants in the United States are from Mexico," King said. "Although, there's more violence south of Mexico than there actually is in Mexico."
King said that 75-80 percent of the girls going through Mexico to get into the United States are raped along the way.
The only thing that can't be substantiated about Trump's controversial words, King said, is when he said, "And some, I assume, are good people."
"He used the word 'assume' because there is no data on how many are good people," King said.
CNS News Editor Terry Jeffrey told Newsmax he examined data from the Justice Department's website and found that the vast majority of federal crime is committed along the U.S.-Mexican border.
"There's more federal crime in the western district of Texas along the Mexican border than there is an all 17 U.S. attorney's districts that run along the Canadian border and the Great Lakes from Washington to Maine," Jeffrey said.
