Recent attempts to pin the blame for the deadly Pittsburgh synagogue shooting on President Donald Trump are an all too familiar tactic by the left that has been in use for decades, author and political commentator Jeffrey Lord told Newsmax TV.
Lord was on Monday's "Newsmax Now" and was asked about The Washington Post column written by Russian-American Julia Ioffe, who argued that Trump bears some blame for the shooting because of his rhetoric.
"This is sad to say, but this is what the American left has been doing my entire life," Lord said. "I was in the seventh grade when President Kennedy was assassinated . . . by a pro-communist, somebody who wanted to defect to the Soviet Union, a pro-Castro guy named Lee Harvey Oswald. Immediately, in the media of the day, it was said that it was a right-wing climate of hate in Dallas that brought this about.
"And they went on to blame conservatives. They went after Barry Goldwater, who happened to be, in fact, a good friend of John F. Kennedy's and was just broken-hearted over this. They do this all the time. They have been doing it for decades."

Lord said all one has to do is select a current or former Republican politician to find a member of the GOP who has been subjected to baseless accusations.
"You know all these accolades for John McCain the other week, and you look up and see what they were saying about him during the campaign, that he was a racist and a war-monger and all this kind of thing," Lord said.
"It's a standard formula, [Ioffe's] that we're hearing now is only the updated version of it. It's atrocious."
Later on "Newsmax Now," Lord said there is no logic behind blaming Trump or anyone else for the Pittsburgh shooting or any other shooting other than the perpetrator.
"The person who does this is the person responsible, not somebody in the media, not the president of the United States, not anyone else," Lord said.
