Texans are "furious" over Newsmax's deplatforming by AT&T's DirecTV, Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, said Thursday.
"People are furious, and even the ones who can still watch Newsmax are furious, just as I am, because this is censorship and this is very dangerous for our country," Fallon said on Newsmax's "National Report."
Fallon added that the "most important diversity" is the "diversity of thought," and that he's not afraid of what the left has to say, even if he doesn't "think it makes a lot of sense," as "they have to appeal to emotion and not logic."
Fallon said differing opinions are not dangerous, but for the left, "dissent itself is kryptonite."
Speaking about the nation's "woke corporations," like AT&T and DirecTV, "I find it ironic that the hard left will be coming for them, too," said Fallon. "It's like they just want the alligator to eat them last. It's time to stand up and say we have to do something about it."
Fallon's comments came in response to the removal of Newsmax from 13 million subscriber homes on Jan. 24, marking the second time AT&T/DirecTV has removed a conservative channel in the past year.
DirecTV carries 22 liberal news channels, all of which receive license fees, but denied Newsmax any ability to receive similar payments, even though Nielsen reports that Newsmax is the fourth highest-rated news channel in the U.S., a top 20 news channel overall, and is watched by 25 million Americans on cable.
Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy has called the deplatforming a "blatant act of political discrimination and censorship."
