President Donald Trump is destroying the NFL's business model right before the owners' eyes, political commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"Now, you see what's being said now: We want everybody to stand up," Reagan, the eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan, told "Newsmax Now" host Bill Tucker. "Stand up for the national anthem — because they're being hurt.

"Donald Trump got into it and caused even more havoc, because it was disappearing three weeks ago.

"There were only eight people who took a knee.

"Donald Trump got involved — and now everybody started taking a knee."

"So now, they have to get that over with, but again people started turning away," Reagan said.

"People stopped watching the NFL. If they did watch the NFL, they watched to see if people took a knee.

"If they did, they turned it off.

"The NFL has got some real, real problems today," Reagan told Tucker, "simply because their base, the base of Donald Trump, the conservative base of America watches what? Watches the NFL on Sunday.

"And if you're not going to stand up for the flag of the United States of America, they're going to turn out and tune out — and that's what they did."
