Actor and author Kirk Cameron told Newsmax on Tuesday that parents should teach their children "to love your enemies like Jesus said," to prevent them from following a road "into excess."
Cameron said on "Wake Up America," when asked how parents can explain what's happening in Israel to their children, that "as a father of six kids, my wife and I struggle with this, too."
He added, "Our kids are young adults, and so they're in the world of different opinions politically, economically, religiously, spiritually, morally, and this is something that I believe we would do well to begin to teach our kids when they're little."
Cameron continued: "We not only have brothers fighting against brothers in the Middle East, we have brothers fighting against brothers in Ukraine and Russia … and you've got kids who are going to take what we do in moderation, and I think they're going to blow it up into excess, and what does that leave for them in terms of their future?"
He said that his new book, "As You Grow," was inspired by a story of forgiveness after a violent crime, which he said is intended to teach kids "to love your enemies like Jesus said."
Later, when asked about the divisiveness of the issue and the current protests on college campuses across the U.S., Cameron said, "It starts when people are young kids, are trained and taught who the good guys are and who the bad guys are."
He added: "At the end of the day we're all travelers on a journey to the grave and will stand before God, the just judge of the universe. And I think there are good people, I think there are evil people, but how about we destroy our enemies by making them our friends while we have time and help one another to get it right in love?"
