U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., told Newsmax on Tuesday she believes President Joe Biden will do nothing more than reiterate the failed liberal policies of his first two years in office during his State of the Union address in front of Congress.
“Unfortunately, I think we're going to hear Joe Biden double down on his failed far-left policies,” Stefanik told “The Record With Greta Van Susteren." “We are facing crisis after crisis across America and hardworking American families understand that, whether it's the record inflation, whether it's this unsustainable over $31 trillion of debt, whether it's the border crisis that continues to rage across our southern border, or this crime crisis across the country.
“These are issues that I hear every day from my constituents in upstate New York but also across America.”
Stefanik, who leads the powerful House Republican Caucus, said Biden might propose some initiatives where he can work together with GOP lawmakers.
“The reality is, his policies have led us to this weakened state,” Stefanik said.
The representative for New York’s 21st Congressional District said she didn’t believe Biden will address the suspected Chinese surveillance balloon that traversed the U.S. last week before being shot down Saturday off the coast of South Carolina. But NBC News reported Tuesday, citing three people familiar with the speech, that some lines that refer to China are being edited because of the balloon.
“I previously worked for President George W. Bush in the White House, and I know states of the union are edited until the moment of delivery, so we'll see,” Stefanik said. “But the reality is, his response as commander in chief was abysmally weak to allow a spy balloon from a chief adversary like Communist China to fly over the United States, fly over multiple military installations. That's unacceptable and it shows weakness around the world.
“We need to project American strength, and that's not what we're seeing from this commander in chief, and it goes back to his catastrophic handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, his weakness when it comes to just what we're projecting on the world stage.”
