U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Tuesday he is committed to helping Congress strip any government funding from companies that practice political censorship.
Mast told “The Chris Salcedo Show” he thought it was “ridiculous” that AT&T-owned DirecTV dropped Newsmax from its channel lineup, even though it is the nation’s fourth-highest-rated cable news show.
DirecTV previously deplatformed another conservative news network, One America News, yet it has kept 22 left-leaning news networks, many with far lower ratings than Newsmax.

AT&T has scores of federal contracts worth a combined hundreds of millions of dollars, something that could be in jeopardy in a Republican-controlled House if it is determined DirecTV removed Newsmax and OAN for political reasons.
“For AT&T or any other company, if you're out there and not adhering to the number one rule of law in the United States of America, and that would be our Constitution and very specifically our Bill of Rights within there, then you have no place with the support of we the people, which is what every single tax dollar is for,” Mast said.
The representative for Florida’s 21st congressional district has joined scores of Republican lawmakers and former President Donald Trump in saying Newsmax has been the target of political censorship, which Mast said is “unacceptable.”
“I look at it and say, where are they willing to silence conservatives? Everywhere,” he said. “You should always ask that question: Why did somebody do something? Because you are a conservative voice speaking out against what's taking place with the liberal agenda day-after-day, and they want you to be silenced, to not be heard. Unacceptable and I will continue to stand against it.”
