The number of undocumented immigrants with no criminal records arrested and deported in Wyoming has more than doubled since President Donald Trump took office according to data from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports.
Trump campaigned on the promise that he would build a wall along the southern border to keep immigrants from entering the U.S. illegally and also find and remove those in the country already. Since he took office, he's increased the presence of immigration officers along the southwest border and issued an executive order blocking people from six Muslim-majority nations from entering the country.
The number of immigrants traveling to the U.S. from Central America has sharply declined between February and May from the same time last year according to a recent report in the New York Times, while immigrant arrests have increased by nearly 40 percent since Trump signed a pair of executive orders cracking down on sanctuary cities and tightening border security in January.
The number of people arrested with no criminal record in Wyoming and Colorado has increased from 28 to 134 from Jan. 20 and April 29, compared to the same period last year. Deportations of the same group has more than doubled, from 121 in 2016 to 299 this year.
