Pollster Kellyanne Conway: Women Support Conservative Policies

By    |   Friday, 29 August 2014 12:34 PM EDT

Results of a recent poll that found women voters view the GOP as “intolerant” and “lacking in compassion” are the result of the Republican caricature portrayed by the mainstream media and Democrats, GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway said Friday on Newsmax TV's “America’s Forum.”

“That poll was a little bit 1990s-ish, when we found that same information when we were polling for the contract for America,” Conway said. “The caricatures that the mainstream media and the Democrats have about Republicans have taken hold. At the same time, there are challenges on breaking through some of those caricatures and stereotypes.”

Republicans are “way ahead” of the game, she said, in formulating solutions to those antiquated stereotypes, according to Conway, who noted that the party has invested heavily in Senate races with strong female candidates, is offering “crisp messaging” and has changed its tune on immigration.

Also in the GOP’s corner, she said, is President Barack Obama’s dearth of leadership on foreign policy and the border crisis.

Additionally, when women voters are presented with “specific solutions in a blind taste test” on issues such as taxes, abortion and education, “women overwhelmingly support conservative policies.”

Republicans who may face Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race will “show who she really is,” according to Conway.

“She's hardly the Hillary of early 1992,” Conway said. “She's a rich lady. Hillary is the Mitt Romney of 2016 where she has very little in common with the average person. She doesn't drive herself anywhere, she doesn't put on her own makeup, she doesn't cook her own meals, and she doesn't research her own materials. She has very little in common with the average woman.”
