Rep. Hurd: Partisan 'Bickering' Jeopardizing Intel Agencies

CNN's "The Situation Room"

Rep. Will Hurd said the "bickering and partisan fighting" surrounding Russia's involvement in the presidential election is "creating a problem — and it is putting our intelligence services in danger."

"One of the greatest successes of Russia intelligence is that their activities have created a wedge . . . between the White House and the American public," the Texas Republican told Wolf Blitzer on CNN on Thursday. "This kind of conversation, this kind of bickering and partisan fighting, is creating a problem — and it is putting our intelligence services in danger."

The top two members of the Senate Intelligence Committee — Republican Richard Burr of North Carolina and Virginia Democrat Mark Warner — declared Thursday no evidence existed Trump Tower was "the subject of surveillance" by the Obama administration before for after last year's presidential election.

But the White House doubled down on President Donald Trump's initial claim of wiretapping, with spokesman Sean Spicer saying the senators' statement came without a full review of the evidence or, incorrectly, a briefing from the Justice Department.

Hurd, 39, an undercover CIA agent for nine years, told Blitzer "we should let the men and women go about doing their job — and that's why Congress is here to review law enforcement and intelligence.

"As we can allow that process to unfold, I know the American people demand and deserve answers to the questions."
