A waitress in Arkansas didn't know what to expect when two customers asked to speak to her during her double shift at a Mexican restaurant recently. Instead of complaints about her service, Maria Elena Barragan received a "gift from God" — a 2019 Buick.
The two good Samaritans, David and Shelia Harrison, are regulars at the Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant in Rogers, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
They noticed how hard Barragan had been working and decided to gift her with a new car. The waitress had no idea what was coming when her manager said they wanted to speak to her.
"I got scared at first because I thought I was in trouble," Barragan said. "They pulled up some seats at the table and told me how much they appreciated and loved me and then they presented me with a gift bag."
The bag contained papers to the 2019 Buick Encore, which was made out in her name. Barragan was stunned. She had been driving a 2005 Trailblazer around town and it was only a matter of time before the vehicle died.
"I told Mr. David Harrison that I couldn't accept it, that it was too much, and he said 'Elena, it is because God led me to do it,'" she continued. "I didn't take it as a tip. I took it as a gift from God."
Barragan said when she drove the car home, her children immediately thought something had happened to the old Trailblazer.
"When I stepped out of the vehicle they couldn't believe it," she said. "They thought something had happened to the old car and that it was a rental or something. They thought I was kidding. My kids are still in shock."
