DC Police Working Longer Shifts Because of Threat

Thursday, 08 September 2011 11:19 PM EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Law enforcement officials in Washington say they are working to corroborate a terrorism threat against the city.

They held a news conference after government officials said Thursday they were investigating a detailed al-Qaida car bomb plot aimed at bridges or tunnels in New York or Washington.

James McJunkin, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's Washington field office, said that his agents aren't seeking any particular individuals. He says there aren't any names they're investigating.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier says that all police officers will be working 12 hour days indefinitely. She says unattended cars parked in odd locations risk being towed in the next few days.
