Health and Human Services chief Alex Azar on Tuesday announced an additional pledge of $7 million to help fight back the Ebola outbreak in Congo, The Washington Post reports.
It brings the United States' total pledge to $8 million.
Azar made the pledge at the World Health Assembly in Geneva.
The outbreak has killed nearly 30 so far with six new confirmed cases announced Tuesday, bringing that number to more than 50.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says it will take about $26 million over the next three months to control the outbreak.
During remarks to announce the pledge, Azar encouraged all member states to contribute to "WHO's flash appeal to ensure we defeat this outbreak," the Post reported. Azar also supported the Congolese government for "responding to this outbreak with such vigor."
Ebola killed more than 11,000 in West Africa in 2014.
