Some military visits to President Donald Trump's Turnberry golf resort in Scotland last for days at a time, Politico is reporting.
Regular visits from Air Force crews on layovers from Prestwick Airport have become a major facet of the life of the resort, according to Politico.
The known dimensions of the relationship between the president's resort and the U.S. military have been expanded as some military visits stretch beyond single-night refueling stops and last multiple nights, the website reported.
Politico attributed its information to a half-dozen resort staffers. They said one of the reasons for the multiple nights is the bad weather at the airport 40 minutes away.
And in one case this year, crewmembers were laid up for multiple nights when their plane had to undergo repairs. While at the resort, the crew hit the golf course and purchased mementos from the pro shop, Politico said.
Even though crewmembers were seen at the resort over the summer, one staffer said they more frequently show up in the winter season. They usually stay at the lodges — freestanding structures away from the main hotel.
Trump Organization spokeswoman Amanda Miller did not respond to a request for comment from Politico.
Meanwhile, the Air Force last week ordered a review of all international stopovers after it was reported that flight crews stayed at the resort.
