President Donald Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will most likely be in Singapore, The Korea Times reported on Monday.
Citing several diplomatic sources, the report said the meeting will likely occur between June 9 and 15, after Trump attends the G-7 Summit scheduled for June 8-9 in Quebec.
Singapore has become the most likely choice for the White House due to practical reasons, including that both the U.S. and North Korea have embassies there, which would make preparations easier. In addition, officials from the two countries have held already held talks several times there and Singapore has a history of hosting summits for leaders of other countries.
Other sites that have been touted as a potential location for the summit are Sweden, Switzerland and Mongolia.
The truce village of Panmunjeom on the border of North and South Korea has also been considered, especially after South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Kim met there last month, when Kim became the first North Korean leader to cross the border into the South.
Trump even tweeted his preference for the symbolic place.
Sources have speculated that Trump wants his talks with Kim to look as dramatic as that of the Moon-Kim meeting, according to The Korea Times.
Trump confirmed on Friday that the summit’s time and place had already been determined, although he did not give further details, according to Business Insider.
Trump told reporters that there would be an announcement soon.
As part of the preparations for the summit, the White House has announced that Trump will meet with Moon on May 22, The Daily Caller reported.
