Former President Donald Trump has endorsed retired Navy Capt. Hung Cao in Virginia's U.S. Senate race.
Cao, who came to the U.S. as a refugee from Vietnam in 1975, served with special operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. He's one of five candidates seeking the Republican nomination to oppose Democrat incumbent Sen. Tim Kaine in November's general election.
"Hung Cao is a highly respected retired Navy Captain running to represent the Great People of Virginia in the United States Senate," Trump posted Sunday night on Truth Social.
"A Combat Veteran and Highly Decorated Special Operations Officer, Hung Cao will be a tireless fighter to stop Inflation, grow our Economy, secure our Border, strongly support our Incredible Military/Vets, and defend our always under siege Second Amendment.
"Hung Cao has my Complete and Total Endorsement - HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN, AND WE WILL, AT THE SAME TIME, GET RID OF THE WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY, CROOKED JOE BIDEN!"
Cao took to X to say he was "honored to receive an endorsement from the 45th and 47th President of the United States Donald Trump!"
The Virginia primary is scheduled for June 18.
In 2022, Cao ran against incumbent Rep. Jennifer Wexton, D-Va., but lost by 13 points in a district that President Joe Biden won by almost 20 points in 2020.
