President Donald Trump's job approval rating has gone up slightly since the government shutdown to 41 percent, compared to 39 percent last month just before it closed down, according to a Quinnipiac University National Poll released on Tuesday.
However, Trump’s disapproval rating has also increased to 55 percent from 52 percent last month.
Approval for the president’s handling of the economy has dropped to 49 percent, with 48 percent disapproving, compared to his all-time high in November of 53 approval and 42 percent disapproval.
- Republicans approve 86 -11 percent, compared to 82-14 percent last month.
- White voters are divided, with 48 percent both approving and disapproving, while black voters have a negative 8-90 percent approval rating and Hispanic voters a 35-64 percent negative rating.
- Forty-nine percent of men approve of the job the president is doing, with 47 percent disapproving. Among women, 35 percent approve and 62 percent disapprove.
- Voters say 53-44 percent that Trump is not fit to be president, with 61 percent saying he is not honest, 58 percent that he does not have good leadership skills, and 55 percent that he does not care about average Americans.
- Voters disapprove by a 56 to 37 percent margin of the way Democrats in Congress are doing their job, while Republicans get a disapproval rating of 63 to 29 percent.
- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a 35-48 percent negative approval rating, with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at a 21-45 percent negative mark and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer at a 26- 40 percent negative rating
The poll was conducted from Jan. 9-13, with 1,209 voters nationwide surveyed. The margin of error is +/- 3.3 percentage points.
